Experience the excitement of the space shuttles' rise to orbit. Launch: Maximum Thrust simultaneously shows up to five camera angles of the ascent from main engine ignition through Solid Rocket Booster (SRB) separation.
Video footage was recorded by NASA engineering and television cameras. Motion stabilization of long range shots provides stunning close-up views of the spacecraft in flight. Microphones positioned near the launch pad and aboard the orbiter captured the roar of the engines firing, the rush of air as the shuttle accelerates, and the explosive boom of SRB separation. The soundtrack also includes communications among the shuttle astronauts during the ascent. Listen to the commander, pilot, and mission specialists over the orbiter's intercom system as they experience the ride of their lives.
The opening title sequence provides a slow motion view of the space shuttle ignition filmed by high speed cameras. At T-0 an explosive charge releases the SRB hold down posts from the Mobile Launcher Platform. The rockets fire and liftoff occurs.
This movie is available in the following versions:
- Crew audio
- Crew audio with English subtitles
- Rocket audio (no vocals)
Subtitles for the shuttle crew members are displayed in accordance with the seating arrangement on the flight deck.

Launch: Maximum Thrust was developed in conjunction with Launch: All Systems Go -- a similar movie that highlights technical aspects of the flight. Viewers might also enjoy the high energy trailer video. Some of the clips used in these videos are shown at greater length in a bonus reel of shuttle launch tracking shots.
